Monday March 31st!

Success! What a beautiful day it was today - don't you agree? I have a ton of photos to upload for your enjoyment, but I wanted today's blog to be a bit different. I want everyone to reply with a comment to this post. I want you all to list AT LEAST one thing that you learned today. It could be something about Slurpee machines (Bianca) or something about the flora or fauna at Cabrillo National Monument. It's totally up to you. Have fun and I look forward to reading your comments. :)

  1. I learned that there are 3 layers to the tide pool ecosystem, the high, medium, and low. The high contains the more resistant creatures that can withstand the environment, the medium contains hermit crabs and small fish, the low zone shelters larger marine life such as lobsters and kelp.

  2. today i learned The Old Point Loma Lighthouse stood watch over the entrance to San Diego Bay for 36 years. The Old Point Loma Lighthouse was not just the housing for a light; it was the home of the people who took care of the light. It’s a light and a house in one. and i learned about the Point Loma played an important part in this country's military history. and i learned about the animal under the bay.

  5. I learned that the kelp forest in san diego's beach is the largest kelp forest in the west. There are many species that live in the forest such as snails, crustaceans, fish, and more. I learned disturbing the species would interfere with the way they're living. It is our responsibility to help place the things we explore back where we found them.

  6. I learned that when you move sea grass to see the tide pools, you need to more the sea grass back to where it was when you are done.

I also learned that the people who lived at the lighthouse had to walk 18 miles to get to town everyday.

Another thing I learned was that desiccation means "drying out".

2- i had no idea that the glass on a lighthouse lantern was shaped like that. it was pretty epic.

  8. I learned that slurpee machines are dangerous. It is a lesson learned but it will probably happen a few more times.

I also learned that there's a chance I won't die from tasting a strange plant someone tells me I should eat because it tastes like lemons.

:) it was a sweet and sour day
    Thanks Amy!

  10. Today I learned that creatures from the high, middle, and low tidle zones can all be found in one location. The tides are so rythmic that can be traced years in advance. I also learned that Native Americans crushed the 'leamonade berries' to make leamonade. Everyone said they tasted like leamons but I didnt want to eat one. Also, I learned that the light from the light house isnt really a light bulb spinning around but its scuplted glass that refracts the light to make it look like a light bulb. I learn so much more on our amazing day at Cabrillo Monument :)

  12. What I learned today was quite straight-forward: when hiking, don't think about how far you are from the top of the hill. Whether it's 10m or 10km, just avoid thinking about it.

  13. 1. I learned that Amy does not know how to calculate distances based on how it felt.

    2. I learned that listening to music makes hiking go by a lot faster.

    3. I learned that rattlesnakes sunbathe by lying straight like a stick.
